About this trip
A private 6-day journey through Tashkent, with your own driver and vehicle throughout, and an English-speaking guide available. The Silk Road heartland: Samarkand, Bukhara and Shahrizabz, linked by high-speed rail.
You travel as your own group, at your own pace. The plan below is our suggested route, and a consultant can move a day, add a night or change a hotel before you commit.
Pace: A few longer drives between cities, most days out sightseeing.

Day1
Arrive Tashkent, then the Tashkent City Tour.
Tashkent is where the Silk Road meets a modern capital. The Khast Imam complex keeps one of the oldest Qurans in the world, from the seventh century; Chorsu Bazaar sells everything under a vast blue dome; and the plov centre cooks Uzbekistan's national dish in cauldrons big enough to feed hundreds. As evening falls, the city shows its newer, brighter side.

Day2
Amirsoy Mountain & Charvak Lake Tour.
Tashkent's mountains are closer than you'd think. The road climbs into the Chimgan range of the Western Tian Shan to Amirsoy, a modern mountain resort, and on to Charvak, a turquoise reservoir framed by peaks. Fresh air, big views and plenty to do if you want it: ask us about the cable car, quad bikes or horses.

Day3
Historic Tashkent Tour.
Modern Tashkent and the stories behind it. A square and a monument to courage tell how the city rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake; the blue-domed Amir Timur Museum tells the story of the conqueror Uzbekistan honours as its founder; and a memorial to India's Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri marks the city where he died after the 1966 Tashkent peace talks. The 375-metre TV tower rises over it all.

Day4
Samarkand Tour.
Samarkand is the city the Silk Road was really about, and you reach it by high-speed train. There is the tiled square of Registan, where travellers have stopped in their tracks for six hundred years; a mosque raised for an empress; a lane of mausoleums so bright they look freshly painted; and the tomb of Amir Timur, the conqueror who built it all. Somewhere along the way, the bazaar tempts you with the smell of Samarkand bread.

Day5
Parkent Village & Sukok Tour.
A day in the countryside Tashkent escapes to. Vineyards and orchards around Parkent give way to winding mountain roads, and on a hillside stands one of the strangest buildings of the Soviet space age: a solar furnace whose wall of mirrors focuses sunlight to thousands of degrees. Then up into the forests of Sukok for fresh air and village life.

Day6
Free morning, transfer to the airport for departure.

Questions we get asked
Is this a group tour with other people?
No. Every trip on this site is private: your group, your driver and vehicle, your dates. Nobody else joins you.
Can the itinerary be changed?
Yes. This is our suggested route for 6 days, not a fixed package. Add a night, drop a day trip or change a hotel level, and a consultant updates the price before you commit.
Is the price per person or total?
Prices show per person based on two people sharing a double room, with the total alongside. Solo travellers and larger groups pay a different price; the table above shows how.
When do I pay?
Nothing is paid on this website. Once a consultant confirms your trip, a 30% deposit secures it and the balance is due 48 hours before you travel.
What if the weather closes a mountain road?
It happens, mostly outside the months above. We offer the nearest equivalent we can arrange and explain any difference in cost, either way.
